"Bar at Midnight" captures the busiest moment of the night at a popular bar. Amidst the chaos the viewer's eyes are met by the barman. Inspired by Manet's "A Bar at the Folies-Bergère" (1882) and Leonardo's "The Last Supper" (1495) I wanted to create a dynamic, fantastical scene where multiple narratives are taking place over each other. I purposefully used vivid overlapping colours, spilt drinks and distorted perspective to create a sense of noise and drama. It is up to the viewer what happens after midnight.
"Bar at Midnight" is a 29 x 40 cm limited edition print that I will be selling for £10. By emailing fgp5@st-andrews.ac.uk I will make a print for you that you can collect when we come back to St Andrews 17th September. A great way to affordably decorate your room!
