Life Drawing at the Can-Do Marquee - A Review

Due to COVID-19, Life Drawing is slightly different this year - but we are happy to have it back in any capacity. This semester, Life Drawing will be held in the Can-Do Marquee on Lower College Lawn every Wednesday 7-9pm.

After going two times this semester, I’ve found that the experience is different but just as fulfilling. What I always loved about Life Drawing was the calm, focused, and welcoming environment. This years Life Drawing at the Can-Do Marquee offers the same calming environment, with the classic indie Art Soc tunes still playing and the same group of like-minded artsy people. The Art Society still offers paper and drawing mediums of all kinds so you can try out new drawing methods.

The first Life Drawing was costumed, which was an experience different from the usually node models, but it allowed for some fabric texture practice. But from Wednesday October 28th on, the models are nude just like past years.

It was great attending Life Drawing this past Wednesday, getting back into loosely sketching the human posture and feeling more confident after a summer without any Life Drawing. For anyone who hasn’t attended a Life Drawing before, the poses range from 1 minute long poses to 15 minutes, which allows for a range of detail and methods. The experience was just as wonderful as last year (except a bit more comfortable), and the Can-Do Marquee is spacious and well-ventilated, allowing for a safe and fun Life Drawing session.

Overall, Life Drawing at the Can-Do Marquee was safe yet just as enjoyable and relaxing as the years before - so come by with some friends a Wednesday evening! It’s a perfect way to get out of your house safely, while also getting back into your art practice - and it’s a great excuse to get away from your coursework for an evening with some calm music, chill vibes, and art practice. Make sure to sign up for a Wednesday evening via the link in the Art Society instagram bio (@artsocietystandrews) or on the Facebook page in the Events section. We’ll see you there!
