In review: Art Soc’s longest exhibition yet!
Throughout the Candlemas semester, the Art Society held an exhibition highlighting talented student artists in the popular cafe, Taste.
This is Art Soc showcased a selection of work from our members in a section called Artist Highlights, while discarded and anonymous works collected over the years resurfaced in the Lost and Found section.
The following article summarises the range of work exhibited over the course of this exhibition, for a closer look at the exhibition catalogue, visit the This is Art Soc page, here.
Week One
The opening week of the exhibition featured longtime Art Soc member, Iain Lynn and fresher, Nicola Mann. In the cosy venue of Taste, Iain’s brooding oils and Nicola’s cheerful illustrations complimented each other.
Week Two
The second week featured an eclectic mixture of ‘Lost and Found’ artwork, from Lino prints to pottery. This creative format allowed forgotten work to be appreciated and even reunited with its original owners. Highlights included finding familiar faces in discarded portrait sketches and the wonderful collages left behind at our past workshops.
Week Three
The middle week of the exhibition featured the creations of Alexander Chun and Miles D’Aguanno. Alexander’s diverse use of mediums from beading and soldering to acrylic portraiture filled the cafe with colour, texture, and even a sparkling hanging piece. Meanwhile, Mile’s style is consistent across digital and analog media, creating moving and dramatic scenes with sensitivity. Together, their work made week three highly impactful and endlessly engaging!
Week 4
The penultimate week of the exhibition featured the artwork of Amelie Patton and Liz Geenty. Amelie’s colourful play on perspective in her realistic paintings engaged vibrantly with Liz’s maximalist collages. Overall, this week was balanced and playful.
Week Five
The final week of the exhibition, featured, last but not least, Elizabeth Sheehan. Elizabeth’s expressive oil paintings were plenty to fill the gallery area and made for an impressive finale for the exhibition.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Yang, the Art Society’s Exhibitions Coordinator, for pulling together this ambitious project!
